CENTRAL AFRICA'S CLOSED EYELIDS

By Alfredo Torrescalles

What are the underlying reasons for the Central African Republic’s permanent crisis? What do Central Africans think about their reality? Although the Central African conflict has been said to be the consequence of a religious struggle between Muslims and Christians, it is a polyhedral struggle that brings on daily deaths for many people and is rooted in political, economic, and social realities. Central Africa’s Closed Eyelids goes through the geographical and human depths of the country, collecting testimonies by many people from different areas and statuses, offering a unique and historic portrait of the current Central African society. Additionally, this film is a portrait of the human being within a context of absolute hopelessness and a mosaic of visions that reveals the hidden dimensions of the conflict and the reasons people from a wealthy country steeped in natural resources live in utter misery.
