Montr\u00e9al, October 1, 2017 <\/i><\/b>\u2013 The 13<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0edition of the Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF), created by the\u00a0<\/span>Fabienne Colas Foundation<\/b>, announced its prize winners at the Festival\u2019s closing ceremonies on Sunday October 1, at Concordia Theatre Hall. Winners were selected by a professional jury:<\/span><\/p>\n

Feature-length films, fiction:<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>Anik Matern<\/b>, actor \u2013 President of the Jury; <\/span>Mark Krupa<\/b>, director, actor, producer, author; <\/span>Randy Thomas<\/b>, actor.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Feature-length films, documentaries: Paul Carvalho<\/b>, producer, screenwriter, director\u00a0\u2013 President of the Jury; <\/span>Duke Eatmon<\/b>, radio host and contributor; <\/span>Santiago Bertonlini<\/b>, director<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Medium-length and short films: Paul Shore<\/b>, social entrepreneur, director\u00a0\u2013 President of the Jury;<\/span> Natalie Tannous<\/b>, actor, author, director; <\/span>Tania Arana<\/b>, actor, casting director; <\/span>Tamara Brown<\/b>, actor, singer, director, poet; <\/span>Chimweme Miller<\/b>, actor, musician, storyteller.<\/span><\/p>\n

Members of the juries evaluated excellent films from around the globe according to a set of selection criteria. While all films were outstanding, the following really stood out:<\/span><\/p>\n

BEST NARRATIVE FEATURE:\u00a0<\/span>Krotoa<\/b>, by Roberta Durrant (Afrique du Sud)<\/span><\/p>\n

Honourable mention to:<\/span>\u00a0Carpinteros<\/b>, by Jos\u00e9 Maria Cabral (R\u00e9publique Dominicaine); <\/span>Kalushi \u2013 The Story of Solomon Mahlangu<\/b>, by Mandla Dube; <\/span>Dabka<\/b>, by Bryan Buckley.<\/span><\/p>\n

BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE:\u00a0<\/span>Boy 23 – The forgotten boys of Brazil<\/b>, by Belisario Franca (Brazil)<\/span><\/p>\n

Honourable mention to:\u00a0<\/span>Marvin Booker was murdered<\/b>, by Wade Gardner (USA) & <\/span>Centreal Africa\u2019s Closed eyelids<\/b> by Alfredo Torrescalles (Spain)<\/span><\/p>\n

The 13th<\/span>\u00a0<\/b>Montreal International Black Film Festival,<\/span>\u00a0created by the Fabienne Colas Foundation, was\u00a0held from <\/b>September 27 to October 1, 2017.<\/span> The 14<\/b>th<\/b> annual MIBFF will be held from September 26 – 30, 2018. <\/b><\/p>\n
