
{"id":13958,"date":"2020-08-06T21:06:24","date_gmt":"2020-08-07T01:06:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/montrealblackfilm.mysites.io\/?p=13958"},"modified":"2020-08-07T13:06:16","modified_gmt":"2020-08-07T17:06:16","slug":"new-call-for-applications-anglophone-black-montreal-artists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/montrealblackfilm.com\/en\/new-call-for-applications-anglophone-black-montreal-artists\/","title":{"rendered":"NEW CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: ANGLOPHONE BLACK MONTREAL FILMMAKERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Fabienne Colas Foundation:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Youth and Diversity Program\u2019s Being Black in Canada<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>(Being Black in Montreal)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Fabienne Colas Foundation\u2019s Youth and Diversity Program is proud to be back with a call for applications for its 2020 <strong>Being Black in Canada program (Being Black in Montreal)<\/strong>, presented by <strong>Netflix<\/strong> in collaboration with the <strong>National Bank<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the support of<strong> Netflix, <\/strong>the<strong> National Bank, <\/strong>and the<strong> Canada Media Fund, <\/strong>in addition to the 5 Black French-speaking Montreal participants, the program will also be able to welcome <strong>5 Black English-speaking artists from the Greater Montreal Region. <\/strong>After an initial call for French-speaking candidates earlier this year,<strong> this 2nd call for applications targets only Black English-speaking candidates wishing to make their films in English.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Please note the 2020 other calls for applications for the Program in Montreal, Toronto, Halifax for 2020 are closed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This program offers professional mentorship in the audiovisual production of a short film with the theme of <strong>\u201cBeing Black in Montreal.\u201d<\/strong> 10 young, promising Black filmmakers (5 francophones and 5 anglophones) will be guided through the many steps in audiovisual production (screenwriting, directing, editing, post-production, etc.), and will create a documentary short (from 8 to 10 minutes). This process will be carried out under the professional tutelage of an industry professional with professional equipment from L\u2019<strong>Inis<\/strong> (l\u2019Institut national de l\u2019image et du son) and <strong>Peak Media <\/strong>(Postproduction).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Their final work will be screened as:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>World Premiere at the <strong>Toronto Black Film Festival<\/strong> &#8211; February 10 to 15, 2021.<\/li>\n<li>Atlantic Premiere at the <strong>Halifax Black Film Festival<\/strong> &#8211; February 26 to 28, 2021.<\/li>\n<li>Quebec Premiere at the <strong>Montreal International Black Film Festival <\/strong>&#8211; September 2021.<\/li>\n<li>Potential screenings to other festivals \/ events after March 2021 (tbd).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Filmmakers will address the issue of social integration of people from black communities in Montreal through film. The program addresses <strong>emerging creators between 18 and 30<\/strong>, who are from black communities and have a passion for cinema. Potential candidates have a dream to work in the audiovisual field but have not yet had the opportunity, due to social, economic, and\/or cultural reasons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Eligibility criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Be between 18 and 30 (included) on the date of application.<\/li>\n<li>Be from a black community.<\/li>\n<li>Have demonstrated an interest in the audiovisual field and documentary filmmaking.<\/li>\n<li>Have concrete career-oriented plans in the audiovisual field.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate motivation for the program.<\/li>\n<li>Be available for activities related to the program, particularly from <strong>August &amp; December 2020 <\/strong>for all training, creation, editing, follow-up, discussions etc; AND between <strong>February &amp; October 2021<\/strong> for screenings, festivals, distribution, promotion etc.<\/li>\n<li>Be available to attend the Black Film Festivals tour in Montr\u00e9al, Toronto, and Halifax.<\/li>\n<li>Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.<\/li>\n<li>Live in the Greater Montreal Area.<\/li>\n<li>Submit a video or film you made in a non-professional setting (short film, clip, video, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>Submit a concrete documentary project that fits the program theme (250 words).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Speak and write French fluently (in order to fully participate in class).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>People who have already created, completed, or directed professional videos or films are NOT eligible.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Films can be created in English; HOWEVER, each applicant must be fluent in French to fully benefit from the program and easily take part in training, mentorships and more.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hurry and send in your application before August 31, 2020, by clicking <a style=\"fon-size: 24px; color: red;\" href=\"https:\/\/beingblackincanada.com\/new-call-applications-anglophone-black-montreal-artists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>HERE<\/strong><\/a>, to have the chance to participate in this program.
