The program, presented by <strong>NETFLIX<\/strong> in collaboration with <strong>National Bank<\/strong>, is also supported by<strong> Telefilm Canada, Canada Media Fund, <\/strong>and the<strong> Canada Council for the Arts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;This<\/em> <em>is a tremendous recognition!<\/em><em> Congratulations<\/em><em> to our gifted emerging Black filmmakers who made history by winning <\/em><strong><em>Best Direction in a Documentary Series<\/em><\/strong><em> at <\/em><em>the <strong>2021<\/strong><\/em><em> <strong>Canadian Screen Awards <\/strong>for our Being Black in Toronto 2019\/2020 (Part of FCF&#8217;s Being Black in Canada Series),\u201d Said <\/em><strong><em>Fabienne Colas<\/em><\/strong><em>, CEO &amp; Founder of the Black Film Festivals in Montreal, Toronto, Halifax, Ottawa, Calgary, Vancouver &amp; The Fabienne Colas Foundation.<\/em><em> \u201cWe are grateful towards the <strong>Academy of Canadian Cinema &amp; Television<\/strong> for recognizing that Black stories do matter and that Black filmmakers are talented. <\/em><em>It also proves one more time that Black emerging Filmmakers don&#8217;t lack talent. They just lack opportunities. And this is exactly what the Fabienne Colas Foundation&#8217;s Being Black in Canada program offers. We are so proud to be amplifying more Black voices through this program all over Canada with the support of our Partners.&#8221; <\/em><\/p>\n<p>As part of the <strong>FCF\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>BEING BLACK IN CANADA <\/strong>program<strong>, <\/strong>emerging filmmakers addressed the issue of social integration of people from Black communities in their city through film under mentorship of film professionals including Oya Media Group. The participants presented their films as a World Premiere at the Montreal International Black Film Festival, followed by Toronto Black Film Festival and the Halifax Black Film Festival<\/p>\n<p>Here are the FCF\u2019s Being Black in Canada: Being Black in Toronto CSA winners:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Omolola Ajao<\/strong>: YYZ<\/li>\n<li><strong>Valerie Amponsah<\/strong>: Joseph, Margaret &amp; I<\/li>\n<li><strong>Yasmin Evering-Kerr<\/strong>: The Onyx Butterfly<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sharine Taylor<\/strong>: Tallawah Abroad<\/li>\n<li><strong>Adrian Wallace<\/strong>: Black Sun<\/li>\n<li><strong>Yvano Wickham-Edwards<\/strong>: #Black<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>BEING BLACK IN TORONTO<\/strong> is available for streaming on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gem.cbc.ca\/media\/absolutely-canadian\/season-20\/episode-18\/38e815a-013ac5d2768\"><strong>CBC GEM<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABOUT THE PROGRAM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Fabienne Colas Foundation\u2019s\u00a0<strong>BEING BLACK IN CANADA Program <\/strong>&#8211; presented by NETFLIX in collaboration with National Bank &#8211; represents<strong>\u202fCanada\u2019s largest incubator dedicated to Black Filmmakers<\/strong>.\u202fAs part of the\u00a0Fabienne Colas Foundation\u2019s\u00a0Youth and Diversity Initiative,\u00a0the FCF\u2019s\u00a0Being Black in Canada\u00a0program\u00a0was created\u00a0to make up for the blatant lack of diversity and the lack of Black People in front and behind the camera in Canada.\u00a0Founded\u00a0in 2012, with the first cohort launched in 2014,\u00a0the Program\u00a0gives a voice and a platform to creators who would not otherwise be seen or heard.
