Montreal, August 3, 2011 \u2013 The newspaper Le Point called it THE summer comedy of 2011. Two weeks after its opening, close to a million French movie goers had bought a ticket for this motion picture event. The North American premiere of Fabrice Ebou\u00e9’s, Thomas Ngijol’s and Lionel Steketee’s CASE D\u00c9PART will launch the 7th edition of the Montreal International Black Film Festival, on September 22.<\/p>\n

CASE D\u00c9PART (Back to Square One), an explosive comedy about slavery, follows two half brothers: Joel (Thomas Ngijol) and Regis (Fabrice Ebou\u00e9) who, called at their father’s deathbed in the Antilles, receive as sole inheritance the emancipation act that freed their slave ancestors. Not caring much about the document’s symbolic value, they tear it up. As punishment for this act, a mysterious aunt decides to send them back in time to experience slavery. Catapulted to 1780, they’re sold on the slave market. The 2 brothers will have to join forces, not only to flee the plantation, but to find a way to get back home to the 21st century.<\/p>\n

The Nouvel Observateur called the Jamel Comedy Club’s 2 most provocative comedians, Thomas Ngijol’s and Fabrice Ebou\u00e9’s first feature film, CASE D\u00c9PART, “a hot comedy reminiscent of Moli\u00e8re.” Not only do the 2 comics star in this movie, but they wrote the screenplay together and co-directed the film with Lionel Steketee.<\/p>\n

\nIs a regular at the Jamel Comedy Club. He’s been doing irreverent standup routines all over Paris and Quebec since 2000. His one-man shows Alleluia! and Envers et contre tout! were major hits in Paris.<\/p>\n

\nThis new talent, who’s part of the new generation of French comedians, was discovered at the Jamel Comedy Club. Two years after having charmed the audiences of the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de 10 Heures for close to 6 months, he’s now one of the most promising comics in France.<\/p>\n

After its North American premiere at the Montreal International Black Film Festival, CASE D\u00c9PART, distributed by K-Films Am\u00e9rique, will hit Quebec screens starting October 7, 2011.<\/p>\n
