Montreal, October 2, 2023 <\/b>\u2013 The <\/span>Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF),<\/b> created by the <\/span>Fabienne Colas Foundation<\/b> and presented by<\/span> Desjardins<\/b>, is proud to close its 19th edition. #MIBFF23 celebrated Diversity through 75 films from 20 countries and various industry events.<\/span><\/p>\n

During this hybrid edition of the festival, a professional jury evaluated the films in competition according to a series of selection criteria. While all the selected films were outstanding, the following really stood out:<\/span><\/p>\n

BEST NARRATIVE FEATURE:\u00a0 <\/span>SEMRET<\/b> by Caterina Mona (<\/span>Switzerland)<\/span><\/p>\n

BEST DOCUMENTARY FILM: <\/span>DANCING IN A-YARD <\/b>by <\/span>Manuela Dalle (<\/span>USA<\/span>, France)<\/span><\/p>\n

HONOURABLE MENTION: <\/span>WHITE NANNY BLACK CHILD <\/b>by <\/span>Andy Perceval Mundy-Castle (United Kingdom)<\/span><\/p>\n

About the Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF)<\/b><\/p>\n

Created in 2005 by the Fabienne Colas Foundation, the <\/span>Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF)<\/span><\/a> is currently the <\/span>largest<\/b> Canadian film festival entirely dedicated to black realities from all four corners of the world. It aims to offer the public the most spectacular productions in black cinema and debate the great cultural, social, and socio-economic issues facing society. The MIBFF goal is to promote the development of the independent film industry and showcase more films depicting black realities around the world. The festival seeks to prioritize local and international films that do not necessarily come under the spotlight, a new cinema that moves its audience and raises awareness \u2013 and a few eyebrows. In so doing, the MIBFF addresses issues and showcases art that makes you think and smile, provokes, bewilders, and shocks you \u2013 a new, fresh look at black cinema from all parts of the globe!<\/span><\/p>\n
