Montreal, June 16, 2014 – For its 10th edition, the Montreal International Black Film Festival, created by the Fabienne Colas Foundation and presented by Global Montreal, is proud to participate in the 2014 summer programming of \u201cDowntown Screenings under the Stars\u201d at place de la Paix.<\/p>\n

\u201cDowntown Screenings under the Stars,\u201d presented by the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des arts technologiques and the Quartier des spectacles, in collaboration with the Ville-Marie borough, is a weekly screening of films from June 13 to September 28, 2014, bringing a new life to place de la Paix.<\/p>\n

For this event, the 10th Montreal International Black Film Festival, which will take place from September 23 to 28, 2014, will present an explosive comedy about slavery, Case D\u00e9part (Back to square one), directed by Lionel Steketee, Fabrice Ebou\u00e9 and Thomas N\u2019Gijol on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 9pm. Two half-brothers who are complete opposites travel to Martinique to reunite with their dying father. In his last breath, he tells them that his most valuable possession is an authentic document listing their slave ancestors. Disappointed by what they consider to be a meagre inheritance, the two brothers tear up the precious document in a fit of rage. This act of sacrilege transports them back to the 19th century, into slavery.<\/p>\n

Presented by Global Montreal, the Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF) was created in 2005 by the Fabienne Colas Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting cinema, art and culture. The mission of the Montreal International Black Film Festival is to stimulate the development of the independent film industry and to foster the creation of more films on international black realities. The festival wants to promote a different kind of cinema: cinema that hails both from here and abroad, that is not always on the silver screen.
