In 2006, Haggis became the first screenwriter\u00a0in Oscar history to have written back-to-back Best Picture\u00a0winners, for 2005\u2019s Million Dollar Baby, directed by\u00a0Clint Eastwood, and 2006\u2019s Crash, which Haggis himself\u00a0directed. For Crash, Haggis won Academy Awards for\u00a0both Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. Haggis\u2019\u00a0other screenplays include Flags of our Fathers, Letters from\u00a0Iwo Jima and two James Bond films (Casino Royale and\u00a0Quantum of Solace), as well as In the Valley of Elah, The\u00a0Next Three Days, and Third Person, all three of which he\u00a0directed. For over two decades he has written, directed, and\u00a0produced television shows such as Walker, Texas Ranger,\u00a0The Tracey Ullman Show, and Thirtysomething, for which\u00a0he won two Emmys. Most recently, Haggis directed all six\u00a0episodes of the HBO mini-series Show Me a Hero. Haggis\u00a0was honored with the prestigious Ian McClellan Hunter\u00a0Award for Career Achievement by the Writers Guild of\u00a0America. Equally committed to his private and social\u00a0concerns, Haggis is the founder of Artists for Peace and\u00a0Justice (APJ), which is committed to providing education,\u00a0healthcare, and dignity to the poorest children of Haiti. His\u00a0work with APJ provides thousands of aspiring Haitians hope\u00a0for the future.
