Utilizing the principles\u00a0of Kingian nonviolence, King quietly exercised negotiation\u00a0and persuasion to reach a compromise between Georgia\u00a0legislators and leaders to change the state flag that was an\u00a0offensive and divisive symbol for many Georgians.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His commitment to worldwide humanitarian concerns\u00a0was exemplified in the late 1970s when he was asked to\u00a0represent president Jimmy Carter in two official delegations\u00a0to promote peace in foreign countries. Later, in 1984, as a\u00a0member of the board of directors of the Martin Luther King,\u00a0Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, King ventured\u00a0to five poverty and drought-stricken African nations on a\u00a0fact-finding tour. In the 1980s, he turned his attention and\u00a0action to the injustices of South Africa and was arrested at\u00a0the South African embassy in Washington, D.C. as part of\u00a0a civil disobedience protest against apartheid, and for the\u00a0release of freedom-fighter Nelson Mandela. In the 1990s,\u00a0he addressed the moral and political dilemmas of third-world\u00a0nations such as Haiti and Nigeria. In 1996, he toured Great\u00a0Britain, where he celebrated Black History Month and shared\u00a0his father\u2019s vision of justice and equality for all people. In\u00a02006, he founded the nonprofit organization Realizing the\u00a0Dream, Inc., which eventually merged with The King Center\u00a0in 2010.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the 44th anniversary of Dr. King\u2019s assassination, Martin\u00a0Luther King III gave a new meaning to the date, addressing\u00a0youth violence prevention as a public health issue.
