Montr\u00e9al, October 3, 2016 \u2013 The 12th edition of the Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF), created by the Fabienne Colas Foundation, announced its prize winners at the Festival\u2019s closing ceremonies on Sunday October 2, at Concordia Theatre Hall. Winners were selected by a professional jury:<\/p>\n
Feature-length films, fictions: Kristian Hodko, actor and scriptwriter; Marie-\u00c9velyne Lessard, actress; Michael Challenger, actor, dancer, founder of Anu Productions<\/p>\n
Feature-length films, documentaries: Honey A. Dresher, president of Culture. Diversity, Communications; Carel Pedre, producer, radio, and television host; J\u00e9r\u00f4me Pruneau, doctor of social and cultural anthropology (ethnology), director general of Diversit\u00e9 artistique Montr\u00e9al (DAM)<\/p>\n
Medium-length and short films: Phyllis Gooden, actress; Caesey Shakes, scriptwriter and director; Jhonattan Ardila, actor and director<\/p>\n
Members of the juries evaluated excellent films from around the globe according to a set of selection criteria. While all films were outstanding, the following really stood out:<\/p>\n
BEST NARRATIVE FEATURE: Black, by Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah (Belgium)
\nHonourable mentions to: Bois d\u2019\u00e9b\u00e8ne, by Moussa Tour\u00e9 (Senegal, France)<\/p>\n
BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE: Maya Angelou and still I rise, by Bob Hercules, Rita Coburn Whack (USA)
\nHonourable mention to: Sembene, by Samba Gadjigo, Jason Silverman (S\u00e9n\u00e9gal, \u00c9tats-Unis)<\/p>\n
BEST NARRATIVE SHORT: Adorn, by Elizabeth Melanson, Mouna Traor\u00e9 (Canada)
\nHonourable mention to: High Hoops, by Tanner Jarman (USA)<\/p>\n
The 12th Montreal International Black Film Festival, created by the Fabienne Colas Foundation, was held from September 28 to October 2, 2016. The 13th annual MIBFF will be held from September 27 to October 1st, 2017.<\/p>\n
