10th<\/sup> Montreal International Black Film Festival, <\/strong>founded by the Fabienne Colas Foundation, presented by Global Montreal – September 23 to 28, 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n

Montreal, Wednesday, September 3, 2014 \u2013<\/em>The 10th<\/sup> annual Montreal International Black Film Festival will honour R\u00e9gine Chassagne <\/strong>and Dominique Anglade <\/strong>with 2014 SOCIAL IMPACT AWARD.<\/strong> Both of Haitian decent,Chassagne and Angladewill be the first women to ever be honoured in the history of the Festival. Co-presented by Fondation Paul G\u00e9rin-Lajoie <\/strong>and Centre des Viandes F. Iasenza<\/strong>, the event will take place on September 26, <\/strong>at 6:30PM <\/strong>atCin\u00e9plex Od\u00e9on du Quartier Latin <\/strong>(350, \u00c9mery Street, Montreal). The award ceremony will precede the screening of the historical documentary Victorieux ou Morts, mais jamais Prisonniers<\/em> <\/strong>and followed by a Q&A with director Mario Delatour.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Together, R\u00e9gine Chassagne<\/strong> and Dominique Anglade<\/strong> co-founded the KANPE Foundation<\/strong> a model for action in the fight against poverty through sustainability. Focusing on underprivileged rural areas, KANPE <\/strong>helps families meet their needs through support in a variety of areas, leading them to financial independence.<\/p>\n

“By granting R\u00e9gine and Dominique this award, we hope to not only share their inspirational journey, but also highlight the significance of their social and community involvement. We also hope to remind everyone that we can all become agents of change and help improve living conditions of those less fortunate than us,” declared Fabienne Colas<\/strong>, President and Founder of the MIBFF<\/p>\n

R\u00e9gine Chassagne <\/strong><\/p>\n

R\u00e9gine Chassagne is known worldwide as the co-leader of the Montreal-based band, Arcade Fire<\/strong>, who was recently awarded Album of the Year in 2011 Grammy awards<\/strong> for The Suburbs<\/em>, with its latest release, Reflektor<\/em>, topping the charts. R\u00e9gine uses her celebrity to raise awareness about Haiti, where her family is from. Since 2005, the band has donated $1 of every concert ticket sold to Partners in Health or KANPE<\/strong>. Over the years, the band developed its awareness – raising program Arcade Fire <3 Ha\u00efti, which also promotes initiatives to help Haitian artists and the Stand Up for Haiti campaign. To date, Arcade Fire has raised over 2 million dollars for Haiti, trained over 1,000 volunteers and gotten over 50,000 fans involved in the cause. R\u00e9gine provides ongoing support to a wide range of initiatives for Haiti, both big and small. Recently, she was co-president of the Coup de Chapeau \u00e0 Haiti<\/em> event for Montr\u00e9al en Lumi\u00e8re 2014.<\/p>\n

Dominique Anglade <\/strong><\/p>\n

Dominique Anglade began her career as an engineer in 1996. Specializing in strategic management, she quickly rose the ranks, holding prominent positions with major companies such as Nortel Networks and the prestigious firm McKinsey & Company. Her recognized expertise in major organizational transformations led her to consult leaders of major companies. In 2013, she was appointed President and CEO of Montr\u00e9al International, whose mandate is to attract foreign direct investment, international organizations and strategic talent to Greater Montreal. Dominique is also actively involved in the community, often as president or board member for over fifteen organizations, including student and professional associations, as well as foundations and political parties. In particular, she is the co-founder of the KANPE<\/strong> foundation. Because of her remarkable commitment to society as well as the scope of her actions, she has been recognized with over 25 awards and honours, including being named among 214 Young Global Leaders in 2014 by the World Economic Forum.<\/p>\n
