The event will take place on <strong>September 25, 9PM <\/strong>at <strong>Former NFB Cinema <\/strong>(1564, Rue St-Denis, Montreal). The first <strong>\u201cBeing Black in Montreal\u201d <\/strong>project (part of the Youth and Diversity program) was made possible thanks to<strong> L\u2019inis, Pimiento <\/strong>andthe<strong> National Film Board of Canada (NFB).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Five young and promising filmmakers from black communities in Montreal were selected from a group of around 35 candidates, to each direct a <strong>documentary short<\/strong> on the theme \u201cBeing Black in Montreal.\u201d They attended short workshops at L\u2019inis and were mentored by professionals such as Inis, Pimiento and the project\u2019s artistic director Henri Pardo.<\/p>\n<p>With this first edition of the program <strong>\u201cYouth &amp; Diversity,\u201d <\/strong>the <strong>Fabienne Colas Foundation <\/strong>has gone above and beyond its role as a promoter, investing in training the next generation of audiovisual professionals from various cultural backgrounds. The Foundation will proudly present the work of these five filmmakers and their chosen themes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sandra Cayo: <\/strong>Identity<\/li>\n<li><strong>Annick Maugile-Flavien: <\/strong>Language<\/li>\n<li><strong>Caesey Shakes: <\/strong>Modern Black Femininity<\/li>\n<li><strong>Claude Emmanuelle Yapo: <\/strong>Sacrifice &amp; Immigration<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jeff Figaro: <\/strong>Redemption &amp; 2nd chance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The 10<sup>th<\/sup> <strong>Montreal International Black Film Festival<\/strong> \u2013 created by <strong>Fabienne Colas Foundation<\/strong> and presented by <strong>Global Montreal <\/strong>&#8211; will take place from <strong>September 23 to 28, 2014. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>ABOUT THE MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL BLACK FILM FESTIVAL \u2013 MIBFF<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF) was created in 2005 by the <strong>Fabienne Colas Foundation<\/strong>, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting cinema, art and culture.
