Academy Award nominated director and screenwriter Spike Lee <\/strong>will receive the Montreal International Black Film Festival’s inaugural PIONEER AWARD<\/strong>. The MIBFF is thrilled to grant him this prestigious award in recognition of his body of work which revolutionized the role of black talent in Hollywood, tearing away decades of stereotypes and marginalized portrayals to establish a new arena for African-American voices to be heard.<\/p>\n

The award ceremony will precede the International Premiere of Da Sweet Blood of Jesus<\/strong>, Spike Lee\u2019s<\/strong> latest film funded by Kickstarter. Following the film screening, audience members will get a chance to participate in a Q&A session with the famed director.<\/p>\n

The Montreal International Black Film Festival will honour R\u00e9gine Chassagne <\/strong>and Dominique Anglade, <\/strong>with 2014 SOCIAL IMPACT AWARD<\/strong> for the significance of their social and community involvement through KANPE<\/strong>. <\/strong>Both of Haitian decent,Chassagne and Angladewill be the first women to ever be honoured in the history of the Festival. The award ceremony will precede the screening of the historical documentary Victorieux ou Morts, mais jamais Prisonniers, <\/strong>followed by a Q&A withdirector Mario Delatour.<\/p>\n

Five young and promising filmmakers from black communities in Montreal were selected from a group of around 35 candidates to each direct a documentary short on the theme \u201cBeing Black in Montreal.\u201d They attended short workshops at L\u2019inis and were mentored by professionals. The projects\u2019 artistic director was Henri Pardo. With this first part of the program \u201cYouth & Diversity,\u201d created in honour of MIBFF\u2019s 10th anniversary, the Fabienne Colas Foundation has gone above and beyond its role as a promoter, investing in training the next generation of audiovisual professionals. The Foundation is proud to present the work of these five filmmakers on the following themes: identity, redemption & second chance, language, modern black feminity and sacrifice & immigration.<\/p>\n

JOLLYWOOD EVENING: MOVIE DISCUSSION (HAITI OPTIMISTE)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Haiti Optimiste is a collection of recent work from Cin\u00e9 Institute, Haiti\u2019s only film school. The Institute creates modern opportunities for the country\u2019s youth through a tuition free two-year program, which features a college level curriculum, hands-on technical training, and professional support for graduates. The program features a range of works from students and graduates including award winning films like Amiral Gaspard\u2019s supernatural Le bon, le m\u00e9chant et l\u2019apprenti (The Good, The Bad, The Apprentice), and cutting edge projects like Arcade Fire\u2019s interactive Just a Reflektor music video directed by Vincent Morisset and produced with assistance from Cin\u00e9 Institute graduates.Film followed by discussion with David Belle<\/strong>, Founder of Cine Institute.<\/strong><\/p>\n
