The MIBFF is thrilled to grant him this prestigious award in recognition of his body of work which revolutionized the role of black talent in Hollywood, tearing away decades of stereotypes and marginalized portrayals to establish a new arena for African-American voices to be heard.<\/p>\n<p>The award ceremony will precede the International Premiere of <strong>Da Sweet Blood of Jesus<\/strong>, <strong>Spike Lee\u2019s<\/strong> latest film funded by Kickstarter. The award ceremony will precede the screening of the historical documentary <strong>Victorieux ou Morts, mais jamais Prisonniers, <\/strong>followed by a Q&amp;A withdirector Mario Delatour.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cYOUTH AND DIVERSITY\u201d EVENING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday September 25, 9PM, Former NFB Cinema | $10<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Co-presented by Fabienne Colas Foundation, Inis, Pimiento, NFB<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Five young and promising filmmakers from black communities in Montreal were selected from a group of around 35 candidates to each direct a documentary short on the theme \u201cBeing Black in Montreal.\u201d They attended short workshops at L\u2019inis and were mentored by professionals. The projects\u2019 artistic director was Henri Pardo. With this first part of the program \u201cYouth &amp; Diversity,\u201d created in honour of MIBFF\u2019s 10th anniversary, the Fabienne Colas Foundation has gone above and beyond its role as a promoter, investing in training the next generation of audiovisual professionals. The Foundation is proud to present the work of these five filmmakers on the following themes: identity, redemption &amp; second chance, language, modern black feminity and sacrifice &amp; immigration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>JOLLYWOOD EVENING: MOVIE DISCUSSION (HAITI OPTIMISTE)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday September 26, 9PM, Former NFB Cinema | $10<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Presented by Magnus Poirier<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Haiti Optimiste is a collection of recent work from Cin\u00e9 Institute, Haiti\u2019s only film school. The Institute creates modern opportunities for the country\u2019s youth through a tuition free two-year program, which features a college level curriculum, hands-on technical training, and professional support for graduates.
