This year, MIBFF is honoured to present Omar Sy (Lupin) with the 2021 MIBFF Career Achievement Award.

Omar Sy opens up in a heart-to-heart conversation where festival-goers can hear the Cesar-winning actor talk about his career, the revival of the Black Lives Matter Movement, the outstanding success of the Netflix series Lupin - which has become the most viewed series on Netflix - and so much more.

Biography

Humorist, comedian, author, complete artist close to the public, Omar Sy is one of the favourite personalities of the French. After establishing himself as an immensely popular actor in France, he has extended his career abroad through projects as varied as they are prestigious.

Omar Sy had a historic success with INTOUCHABLES, his third film with directors Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano, after NOS JOURS HEUREUX and TELLEMENT PROCHES. His performance earned him the César for best actor in 2012. He shared the Interpretation Award at the 2011 Tokyo International Film Festival with his partner François Cluzet. INTOUCHABLES was an international success and was nominated for the Golden Globes for Foreign Film, as well as the BAFTA Award.

In October 2014, French audiences reunited with Omar Sy in SAMBA, the 5th film by the Nakache-Toledano duo, alongside Charlotte Gainsbourg, Tahar Rahim and Izïa Higelin. He then played the clown CHOCOLAT, in a film directed by Roschdy Zem. The true and unknown story of the life of Rafael Padilla, the first black artist of the French scene, nicknamed Chocolat because of his skin colour. This film is the adaptation of a book by historian Gérard Noiriel.

Since 2013, in parallel to his French career, Omar Sy is sought after in the United States and has played in GOOD PEOPLE by Henri Ruben Genz, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST by Bryan Singer, JURASSIC WORLD by Colin Trevorrow, BURNT by John Wells, INFERNO by Ron Howard and THE CALL OF THE WILD by Chris Sanders with Harrison Ford.

Omar Sy has played in about thirty films in fifteen years. Among them are ENVOYES TRES SPECIAUX by Frédéric Auburtin, KING GUILLAUME by Pierre-François Martin-Laval, MICMACS À TIRE-LARIGOT by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and LA LOI DE MURPHY by Christophe Campo. More recently, Omar Sy has appeared in SAFARI by Olivier Baroux, LES TUCHE by Olivier Baroux, LES SEIGNEURS by Olivier Dahan, MAIS QUI A RE-TUÉ PAMELA ROSE? by Kad Merad and Olivier Baroux, LES SEIGNEURS by Olivier Dahan DE L'AUTRE CÔTÉ DU PÉRIPH by David Charhon and L'ÉCUME DES JOURS by Michel Gondry.

More recently, we could see him in Hugo Gélin's film, DEMAIN TOUT COMMENCE, YAO by Philippe Godeau, a powerful film about origins and the power of roots that he co-produced. He also played in LE CHANT DU LOUP by Antonin Baudry, LE PRINCE OUBLIE by Michel Hazanavicius and POLICE by Anne FONTAINE.

This year, he plays Assane DIOP, a gentleman burglar inspired by Arsène LUPIN in the Netflix series LUPIN whose success has resounded internationally.
