THE HOME TEAM
By Camille Pendley & Laura Asherman
The Home Team follows residents of two historic, low-income neighborhoods that border Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Residents grapple with the blatant disparity between the new $1.6 billion stadium and the neglect of their community, once home to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. but more recently known as the largest heroin market in the Southeast. As we get to know the neighborhood's residents, we also hear from advocates and politicians who explain the public-private deals made, and the culture that saw fit to invest hundreds of millions of public dollars in a sports venue while allowing the historic community across the street to decline and the people who live there to struggle to have their basic rights met.
