Montreal – Tuesday, August 26, 2014 – The Montreal International Black Film Festival is proud to kick start its 10th edition with the North American Premiere of Boris Lojkine’s Hope, on Tuesday September 23, 7PM at Imperial Theater. Hope earned the French director/screenwriter the SACD award at this year’s Cannes Festival’s Semaine de la Critique. This is the first fiction film for Lojkine who is known for his Vietnam-centric documentaries Ceux qui restent and Les Ames errantes.

Hope portrays of the reality of the tragic conditions of the exile of Africans travelling through the Sahara to reach Europe. Deep in the desert, on his way to Europe, Léonard, a young man from Cameroon, rescues Hope, a Nigerian woman. In a fiercely hostile world where you have to stay with your own people to stay safe, these two try to find their way and love each other.

The 10th Montreal International Black Film Festival, created by the Fabienne Colas Foundation, will be held from September 23 to 28, 2014 and is presented by Global Montreal.
